We’re headed up to Michigan today for the next week or so.  I just found out today that I’m going to be going back to work on Monday the 13th so we may head back home earlier than planned – it depends on the weather and the sort of week we’re having, I guess.  Right now the weather isn’t too summer-like but by the weekend it is supposed to warm up.

Tomorrow is our 5 year anniversary – the time sure has gone by fast!  I think even more so the years that we’ve had kids.  If Hannah cooperates and takes a bottle nicely then awe’re planning on going kayaking with my family tomorrow morning (Blake, too).  If not…  Well, I’ll be staying home with her and Blake and Brian will head out onto the river with the resto f the gang.

The rest of the week we don’t have any plans – just hang out by the lake and catch some sun (maybe my glowing white skin will become a little bit less glowing white by the end of the vacation).

Enjoy the holiday weekend!  =)

Hannah and Blake both had a doctor’s check up today.  Hannah is now 10lb 11.5oz and 21.75in – she falls right in the middle of the growth charts (a little bit below for length*).  Blake is 23 7.5oz and 33.25in – he still comes in below the 3% line but has been tracking along the same for quite a while now so they aren’t concerned.  Brian had such a late growth spurt that it’s quite possible that Blake will be the same – here’s hoping he’s on track to be taller than me!

Tomorrow we head up to Manitowoc for the night and then on to the U.P. for about a week.  We have plans to go kayaking on Friday – Brian will definitely be going with Blake but it’s a bit unsure if I will join them.  Right now Hannah is really not cooperating when it comes to taking a bottle so I may end up staying home so she doesn’t starve or scare the living daylights out of an innocent high school student who has signed on to babysit with the amount of screaming that she can produce when unhappy.  I’m crossing my fingers that it’s just a matter of changing the speed of the nipple on the bottle but I could be completely wrong.  Tonight probably isn’t the best judge of whether or not she’ll take a bottle because she’s VERY upset by the fact that she had to have two shots today.  These seems to have affected her temperament much more than the 1 month shots – crossing my fingers that it passes quickly!

Now for a smiley happy baby shot to remind me how great she is when she’s happy (which lately has been most of the time – knock on wood).

*As an aside – when do you start saying “height” instead of “length” for a child?  When they start walking?  Or is there a certain age???

Refreshing run through the sprinkler

Earlier this week when the heat index was near or over 100 we took out our beach ball sprinkler and Blake had a blast!    The water was really cold but it was a fun way to get a little relief from the heat.

Enjoying the swing

Enjoying the swing

We’re borrowing a swing from Brian’s brother and Hannah seems to be enjoying it – she’s spending longer periods of time not being held which is a VERY good thing (my back thanks her).  She’s been a different baby the last few days compared to a month ago.  She still has our moments but I’d say for the most part she’s a very happy girl – lots of smiles and coos.

Blake spent most of his time in the water on the inflatable raft – but got dumped off once and actually wasn’t too upset about it in the long run.  He was shivering for quite a while before we were able to convince him to get out and warm up.  I think we’re in for a lot of beach time next week while up at the cottage.

I’ve finally moved on to Level 2 of the 30 Day Shred and I’m sort of wishing I could go back to Level 1 again – to the point that I’m taking the day off today because I don’t think I’m physically able to complete a 20 minute workout!  Brian was on the computer while I did the workout last night and I’m sure he thought I was going to die at some point – I was huffing and puffing that loudly and sweating up a storm.  We did go on a very long walk this afternoon – again, enjoying the weather – so I’m hoping that counts for something!

And finally – this is one is from this afternoon.  Blake has been asking repeatedly, “I carry Baby Hannah” so we had him sit with the Boppy and hold her.  Surprisingly (or maybe not) she was smiling quite a bit during the brief period of time that she held him.  One thing is for sure – she knows her brother!

8 Weeks

8 Weeks

Don’t you just want to pinch those chubby little cheeks*?

We’ve been having more ‘good’ days than difficult days lately so that’s a plus.  I really don’t have the slightest idea how big she is now – we go to the doctor for the 2-month check up on Tuesday (and also for Blake’s 2.5-year check up) so we’ll get an idea of how she sizes up in comparison to her big brother next week.

The only other thing of note lately is that it has been ungodly hot outside the past few days – today we went outside to drop Blake off at daycare, go in and out of Target, to pick Blake up from daycare, go in and out of the library and came home.  It was THAT hot (I think the heat index was supposed to be near 106).  I’m hoping the temperatures get back in the normal range in the next few days – I was enjoying having a spring baby until the heat prevented me from going outside – sort of like the cold did with Blake.

I’m also back on the 30 Day Shred wagon and my 8th day on Level 1 wasn’t nearly as bad as the first day.  Since our DVD player is broken I’m hoping that On Demand gets Level 3 or we get a Blue Ray…  Not sure which will happen first!  We’re heading up to the UP for the 4th of July so I’m thinking I’ll be on hiatus again in about a week but I’m hoping to keep up the health kick and get in some long walks and possibly a run or two (but I’m not quite sure about that).  We’ll see…

Tomorrow is Blake’s daycare picnic – I think (I saw a note about it a while back but they haven’t really mentioned anything so now I’m not sure…).  If that’s the case I’ll be sure to post more pictures/video tomorrow night.

*Unfortunately said cheeks are red, rough and peely.  Poor little thing.  We’re trying some new lotions in hopes that things will clear up shortly – seems that she has crazy sensitive skin (and I’m hoping that’s it).

We definitely enjoyed the warm weather this weekend – I don’t think Blake would have ever left the pool if we didn’t make him.  Well…  maybe we didn’t enjoy the heat during the 1.5 hour long church service in a non-air conditioned building.  But all in all the weekend was a success.  Probably the most memorable part of the weekend (aside from the minor flood in our basement) was Hannah grunting and filling her diaper while the priest was speaking during her baptism ceremony.  Brian was crossing his fingers that Pampers would hold true to a no-leak promise since she was sitting on his lap at the time.  I will also probably remember coming home from getting my bangs trimmed and Blake saying to me, “Mommy, you get hair cut?  It’s beautiful.  I proud of you.”  All together now… awwwwww.

I seem to have picked up some sort of cold so I’m on a bit of a 30 Day Shred hiatus.  I did go for a walk on Saturday so I’m not totally out of the workout phase – just hoping that I can get some rest and rebound quickly.

Here’s to the latest heat wave (and hoping that the heat holds while we’re in the UP for the 4th)!
